Volunteering is a vital part of the function of the Hospice in many ways. Volunteers are needed in the hospice in many departments especially Reception, Day Care and the Catering Department.
.
Effective teamwork lies at the heart of Strathcarron Hospice’s success. This team is made up of the staff, the patients, relatives, carers, and volunteers. Each of these groups contributes in a different way . Volunteers play an important part in this team.
The aim of the volunteer team is to strengthen the work of the professional team in the Hospice and to enable the service to extend the practical and supportive help which can be offered to patients, relatives and carers.
There are now around 200 volunteers who make up the team. The time offered by them varies from a few days a week to a few hours a month. Some offer their services on a bank basis, and are called on from time to time. A conservative estimate of the time given by volunteers is 600 hours per week.
Volunteers are a valued asset in the life of the Hospice and our work is greatly enhanced by their part in it.
The Hospice Voluntary Service Co-Ordinator will be pleased to meet with anyone who is thinking about becoming a volunteer, and will advise on the detailed arrangements and discuss all the implications. Then if appropriate, a duty will be arranged for the volunteer. On-going support and training is provided by the Hospice.
