2011 is the 30th Anniversary year of the opening of Strathcarron Hospice. It’s been an incredible journey over the years as the hospice has gradually developed its services. The Hospice opened its doors on 21st April 1981 but the idea of a hospice and the planning started back in 1975 when Dr Harold Lyon met with a few friends to consider whether their vision of “professional excellence and Christian compassion in a place that would be a home from home” was achievable.

Originally the Hospice cared for between 40 and 50 patients at a time in day care, through home visits and in the ward. In 2011 we now expect to directly look after 350 patients at any one time – in the hospice and importantly in people’s own homes. Indirectly we support a much larger number of patients through consultations in hospitals and care homes, through telephone advice, participation in care planning meetings, and in running courses for clinical and care staff from a wide range of organisations.

It would be wonderful to celebrate our 30th Anniversary by upgrading our ward at the Hospice! If we could raise additional income over and above our normal donations we can do it. It’s a huge ask as we still need all the income we usually raise just for the day to day running of the Hospice but in addition we are asking for special help in this special year. There are a number of special events to celebrate the year, click to learn more...
