Patient & Family Support

Strathcarron social workers are part of the Hospice Multi-Professional Team and give practical and emotional support to patients, their families, carers and friends. The Social Worker can and does advocate for the patient and the extended family network.

Living with serious illness can affect every aspect of peoples’ lives. These stresses and strains can become difficult to cope with and talking to a social worker, either alone or with other family members can help with this. Discussing all the available options can also help with any decisions that need to be made. The following questions often worry hospice patients and families:

Our social workers can help you and your family at Strathcarron
Social workers can help patients and their families talk to children and young people close to them about what is happening and how they are coping. Social Workers can liaise with:

  • Local support services and the local NHS who can provide help at home
  • Voluntary organisations and charities who may provide or advise about financial and practical help
  • Employers and schools to help them understand more about the situation
  • The Benefits Agency to ensure all appropriate benefits are being claimed
  • Local Authorities and others to assist with housing needs

  • Spiritual Support

We recognise that some people consider their religious or spiritual beliefs to be of deep importance. Illness can create a heightened need for spiritual discussion and exploration of some of the bigger issues in life.

Our Chaplaincy Team is available to support you, your family and friends, whatever your beliefs. They also provide general support and help within the Family Support Service in conjunction with the social and bereavement support services. Ministers and representatives of your own faith or community are welcome to visit if you wish. The non-denominational hospice Chapel is a room you may wish to use for peace and quiet at any time.
