Bereavement Services

We can provide support after the death of a family member or loved one.  Though grieving is a natural response to the death of someone close, it can be very distressing or traumatic and so some people need additional support to get through this difficult time. Support is available for the whole family, including close friends of those who have been cared for by Strathcarron.

Bereavement information

We know how important it is to understand what it is like to face the loss of someone close.  We therefore send a booklet – Facing Loss - and information about our bereavement services to the next of kin of patients who have died under our care. The booklet explains the impact of bereavement and also includes information about local and national resources. Download our booklet.

Bereavement Support

Though grief is a natural response to experiencing the death of someone close, for some people there may be difficult personal, emotional or psychological issues for which extra support and help is needed. The confidential counselling service is provided for family, carers and close friends whose loved one has died under the care of Strathcarron. Bereavement support staff can see family members individually or together depending on their needs. People may be referred by a team member, a GP or other health professional, or themselves.

Support for Children

Strathcarron's Children's Bereavement Service featured on BBC Children In NeedThe death of a relative affects the whole family, including children. It is a natural response in families to want to protect children from the difficult circumstances the family is facing. However, children are aware and are likely to have worries and concerns about what has happened. It is therefore important for families to support, prepare and involve children throughout the period of illness and after death.

Strathcarron Hospice runs a children’s bereavement service for age 6 – 18years. It is called Seasons and you can download information about ‘Children and Loss’ and about the Seasons programme here. Referrals can be made using the Season referral form. To view a profile of our Children's service as shown on BBC's Children in Need, click here.
